Chad Lee, Extension Agronomist, University of Kentucky
Now that corn season is nearly complete, we have a quick reference guide for corn growth stages and growing degree days. County agents and ag industry personnel were using a draft of this guide for the past several years. The popularity of the document convinced us to make it an official publication.
The growing degree days are based off the udpated Corn Growth and Development guide from Iowa State University. For more details about corn growth and development, this Iowa State publication is an excellent resource. The growing degree days comes from the older National Corn Handbook, which is still an excellent resource. The full listing of chapters in the Handbook is linked here.
The reference guide we have put together is very short, (the front and back of one page) and is meant to serve as a quick reference, only. Enjoy!
